Raccoon Rescue, like other non-profits in the
area, suffers from a severe lack of funding to
accomplish long-term goals, such as a new facility
and a sanctuary for wildlife. The State does not
support or assist those engaged in wildlife
rehabilitation. We all volunteer
our time, energy and funds. We have been forced to
incur the expense to form a non-profit corporation
and file for the right to solicit donations.
These efforts have been accomplished with much
expense and hard work. We were not able to obtain
any pro bono professional services, including
veterinary consultation. We are paying a CPA to
keep financial records, which are necessary for
grant proposals and to maintain our non-profit
status. We have written over 200 proposals during
one year but have received very limited support
from a few private individuals. No corporate
funding has yet been offered. Of the many rescues
we perform in Duval and surrounding counties, about
99% of the people we assist do not contribute a
dime.
We anticipate that some tax dollars and private
and corporate donations will be shifted to humane
alternatives regarding issues concerning wildlife
and people. Without a suitable support structure,
we have struggled to operate during the past years.
We look forward to future aid from concerned and
compassionate citizens to make our story one of
success instead of shame.
